Hope from Ashes in Honduras

Before I joined Prison Fellowship Ministries last August, I pastored a Michigan church. While there I was able to build relationships with churches, orphanages and the local government in Comayagua, Honduras. On visits I often drove past its cruel-looking prison and urged the churches to reach out to those languishing inside.

You can imagine my horror when I saw the images of the devastating fire in Comayagua on February 14 that killed over 350 prisoners, many of whom were still waiting to be tried or even charged. My thoughts and prayers were riveted on their families, and I urged my pastor friends there to reach out and provide basic necessities and the love of Jesus.

To my delight, I was also able to offer the help of my brothers and sisters at Prison Fellowship International (PFI). Through PFI, we connected PF Honduras to the churches and my pastor friends, and the love of Jesus poured out on the survivors, the families and the prison guards.

And the ministry continues: "PF Honduras is also supporting the grieving families who have traveled to Tegucigalpa to identify the bodies. Most of these families are very poor and have no supplies and nowhere to stay.  PF is delivering blankets, soap, toilet paper, and diapers for the young children of family members." (Prison Fellowship International)

Thank you for helping the local church and PF Honduras be "light of the world" in Comayagua! Please pray that God will turnthis tragedy into a platform for Jesus' Church to reveal His infinite love.

Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America, so resources are severely limited. Click here to send a donation to PF Honduras.

Please join me in praying for the survivors and the bereaved this week.
