Perspective

It is often easy to associate Christmas with happiness and Holiday cheer.  When I think of Christmas my mind races to roasted chestnuts, homemade cookies, Christmas carols, family time, and joyfulness - but, I was reminded this week that Christmas does not always bring celebration and cheer to all.  Just because December 25th appears on our calendars, it does not cause all pain to stop.  There are hurting people right here in our own community.  In our own backyard of Pullman, a city that is just 30 minutes from home, there are people struggling to make ends meet this Christmas.

Pointers were able to reach out to the families in Pullman this year through our Adopt a Family program.  In this event, Pointers were given the opportunity to select a family to support by bringing them food and Christmas gifts for the Holiday season.  I’d like to share with you some stories from our Pointers from the event.  Read below to be touched by God’s amazing healing power.  Who can you reach out to this Holiday season???

“As we looked at the Christmas wish list the family only asked for warm clothes. The thought of 3 young kids only wanting to be warm stole my heart. Our family provided them all with winter jackets, gloves, hats and 3 outfits each along with a few small toys. We have also cut 5 face cords of wood for the family to use to heat their trailer this winter and will be dropping it off this weekend. The family we sponsored was a Hispanic family that spoke no English so it made communication tough, but not something that we didn't overcome. God has taught my family to be thankful for the blessings we have and to reach out within the local community to help others in need, especially ones with small children.”

”A huge lesson learned is the tremendous need in our own backyard.”

“The family we helped was just so thankful for all that we did for them. At one point, on the really cold day that we meet with the family, the dad said to us that he was just thankful that they now had heat.....my heart just broke for them......I mean, having heat is just something that my family and I tend to take for granted!  I am just so much more thankful and grateful for all God has provided for me.  This experience was just a great reminder that we all need to treat all of God’s people as equal and special.....no matter what their circumstances may be, He created each and every one of us and loves us.”
“I saw the conditions some people are living in and even though I have heard this described, seeing it was more unbelievable than I imagined. It does not take much other than a heart for Christ to be the hands & feet of Christ. I learned what it looks like to not be lukewarm in our missions.  It is amazing how needy families are within a short drive from our community.”

”Being unemployed ourselves and struggling to keep our heads above water, it was a blessing and truly humbling to be able to help out a family that is truly in need.”
“It was so neat to be able to provide some essential things for these families. Just the fact that we are sharing our love and generosity with others brightens my day. It warms my heart thinking that these families will now be able to celebrate Christmas together, with food and gifts, probably things they haven't had too much of before. I hope that we can continue to impact peoples’ lives like this - it truly is a blessing to reach out to others!”

Merry Christmas, everyone!  Love you all!
